Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Rice Chex or Corn Chex cereal
  • 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup cream cheese, softened
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup freeze-dried cherries, crushed (or cherry Jell-O powder)
  • 1 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs (optional, for extra cheesecake flavor)
  • Red sprinkles (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the cereal: In a large bowl, place the Rice Chex cereal. Set aside.
  • Melt the white chocolate and cream cheese: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and softened cream cheese. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  • Add flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract and crushed freeze-dried cherries (or cherry Jell-O powder) into the melted chocolate mixture until fully combined.
  • Coat the cereal: Pour the melted cherry cheesecake mixture over the cereal and gently stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
  • Add powdered sugar: Transfer the coated cereal to a large resealable plastic bag or another bowl with a lid. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake gently until the cereal is fully coated with the sugar mixture.
  • Optional cheesecake touch: For an added cheesecake flavor, sprinkle in some graham cracker crumbs and shake again.
  • Cool and serve: Spread the coated puppy chow onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool. Once cooled, sprinkle with red sprinkles for a festive touch (optional).
  • Store: Store the Cherry Cheesecake Puppy Chow in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Cherry Flavor Options: If you don’t have freeze-dried cherries, cherry Jell-O powder or cherry extract can be used to get that tart cherry flavor.
  • Substitute for cream cheese: For a lighter version, you can substitute the cream cheese with Greek yogurt or a cream cheese substitute.
  • Extra toppings: For extra sweetness and texture, sprinkle mini chocolate chips or chopped nuts on top before serving.
  • Make ahead: This snack mix can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container, making it perfect for party prep or as a gift.
