Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1½ tsp baking soda
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Salted Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cubed
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Salted Caramel Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup salted caramel sauce (from above)
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

1️⃣ Bake the Chocolate Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla, and mix until smooth. Slowly stir in boiling water until fully incorporated. Divide batter between the pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.

2️⃣ Make the Salted Caramel Sauce: Heat sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until melted and golden. Carefully add butter, followed by heavy cream, and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in salt. Cool before using.

3️⃣ Prepare the Frosting: Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, salted caramel sauce, and heavy cream, beating until fluffy and smooth.

4️⃣ Assemble the Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous layer of frosting. Add the second layer and frost the entire cake.

5️⃣ Decorate: Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the top of the cake, letting it drip down the sides. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt for garnish.

Notes

  • Store the cake in the refrigerator and bring it to room temperature before serving.
  • For an extra touch, add chocolate curls or toffee pieces on top.
