Garlic Butter Chicken is a flavorful, tender dish where juicy chicken breasts are coated in a rich, aromatic garlic butter sauce. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a delicious meal any day of the week.

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or Italian seasoning)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (or water)
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season both sides of the chicken breasts with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Cook the Chicken:
    • In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5–7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  • Make the Garlic Butter Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned.
    • Pour in the chicken broth (or water) and scrape up any browned bits from the skillet. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly reduced.
  • Finish the Dish:
    • Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the garlic butter sauce over the top. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes to warm the chicken through.
  • Serve:
    • Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Optional Variations: Add a splash of heavy cream to the sauce for a creamier texture.
  • Add-ins: You can add sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or other vegetables to the sauce for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of chicken broth.
