Tender chicken breasts are seared to perfection and simmered in a rich, cheesy sun-dried tomato sauce with tender orzo pasta. This dish is so delicious it might just inspire a proposal—or at least a second helping! Perfect for romantic dinners or family meals, it’s as easy to make as it is impressive to serve.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a slight kick)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts on both sides with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  • Cook the Orzo:
    • In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the orzo and toast for 2–3 minutes until lightly golden.
  • Make the Sauce:
    • Stir in the garlic and sun-dried tomatoes, cooking for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
    • Add the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer.
  • Combine and Cook:
    • Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce.
    • Simmer, covered, for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the orzo cooks evenly and absorbs the flavors.
  • Add Parmesan:
    • Once the orzo is tender, stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce is creamy. Adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  • Garnish and Serve:
    • Sprinkle the dish with fresh basil and red pepper flakes (if using) before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • If you prefer a thinner sauce, add a splash of chicken broth or milk before serving.
  • For extra flavor, use sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave with a splash of broth or cream to revive the sauce.
