Russian Buttercream

Russian Buttercream is a silky-smooth frosting made with just two simple ingredients: butter and sweetened condensed milk. Known for its rich, buttery flavor and creamy texture, this frosting is perfect for spreading on cakes, cupcakes, or cookies. Unlike traditional buttercreams, Russian Buttercream is easy to whip up and doesn’t require powdered sugar, making it a convenient yet luxurious choice for your next baking adventure!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Butter:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed using a hand mixer or stand mixer with a paddle attachment. Beat for 3-5 minutes until the butter becomes pale and fluffy.

2️⃣ Add the Sweetened Condensed Milk:
With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the sweetened condensed milk to the whipped butter, a little at a time, ensuring it incorporates fully before adding more.

3️⃣ Add Flavoring (Optional):
Mix in the vanilla extract or other flavorings if desired.

4️⃣ Whip to Perfection:
Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and whip for an additional 2-3 minutes until the frosting is smooth, creamy, and holds its shape.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is softened but not melted for the best texture.
  • If the buttercream becomes too soft, refrigerate it for 10-15 minutes and whip again before using.
  • For chocolate Russian Buttercream, add ¼ cup cocoa powder or melted chocolate during the mixing process.
