Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2024 mini Tootsie Rolls, unwrapped

Optional Garnishes:

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Chocolate drizzle (melted chocolate chips)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • Cream Butter and Sugars:
    • In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add Wet Ingredients:
    • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Shape the Cookies:
    • Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Flatten each ball slightly in your palm and place a mini Tootsie Roll in the center. Wrap the dough around the Tootsie Roll and roll it back into a ball.
  • Bake the Cookies:
    • Arrange the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set but still soft in the center.
  • Cool and Garnish:
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate if desired.
